Situated at Jalan M.H. Thamrin No. 11 in Central Jakarta, Sarinah is renowned as Indonesia's very first department store and skyscraper. Founded by President Sukarno, the building was officially opened on August 15, 1967, and was named after Sarinah, his beloved childhood nanny who profoundly shaped his deep respect and empathy for ordinary people. Originally envisioned to serve as a driving force for the national economy and a trading hub for domestic goods, the building underwent a major, modern revitalization and reopened in March 2022 to celebrate local Indonesian creativity and commerce.
