Jakarta Maritime Museum

Situated at Jalan Pasar Ikan No. 1, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, the Maritime Museum (Museum Bahari) is located right along the historic Sunda Kelapa harbor area. The museum is housed within a complex of former Dutch East India Company (VOC) warehouses built between 1652 and 1771. These massive structures were originally used to store valuable trade commodities such as spices, coffee, tin, and textiles prior to export to Europe, making the location a cornerstone of Batavia's colonial trading network. Today, the museum preserves an extensive collection that highlights Indonesia's maritime dominance, seafaring traditions, and naval defense. Exhibits feature traditional Indonesian watercraft models—including famous vessels like the Phinisi schooner and Borobudur ship—alongside historical navigational instruments, old maps, ship anchors, cannons, fishermen equipment, and portraits of historical maritime figures. The complex also incorporates the historic 17th-century Schooner Tower (Uitkijkpost), which once served as an observation post for monitoring ships entering the harbor. The museum is open to the public from Tuesday through Sunday, remaining closed on Mondays and national holidays.
